Knights Of The Turntables - Fresh Mess
One of those off the wall Electro records, I love It!
It's believed this was repressed in the late 1980's very early 1990's and Beat Street Records, the mail order company seemed to have a large supply. As I understand the wording on the represses does not run across the full width of the label.
Check your copy mine is on Purple Transparent Vinyl.
Knights Of The Turntables - Fresh Mess
Original copy with the letters running to the edge of the label
Original sleeve still in open shrink wrap
No this cannot be, I knew I had the second press of their other release, but this one I always believed was an OG.
ReplyDeleteMy copy bought in 89 (along with their other release) admittedly from Beat Street has the writing in the middle and came sealed in the picture sleeve, so if is a second press it must of been extremely close to your version?
I remember in the late 80's and early 90's JDC repressed this continuously and they were available to buy direct from the label.
ReplyDeleteHi Diseone, It has been a very contentious issue for many years. I also bought some copies from Beat Street Records back in 1989, and myself and a few friends debated it then.
ReplyDeleteThe general understanding back then was that they were being repressed from the original mother stampers. I have held both versions side by side on a number of occasions and can confirm the vinyl is identical to every last detail, Runouts, marks on dead wax etc. This leads me to believe they were pressed from the original mother stampers.
The only thing that changed was actually the paper labels, so although the labels are different the records came from the same master and mother stampers.
Another really interesting fact is that Beat Street Records also had lots of blue label copies of “Kid Frost Terminator”. I have also held both the yellow red and white label version alongside the blue label version, and the same is true for this pressing they are identical in every way apart from the labels, again meaning they must be from the same master and mother stampers.
My understanding is that both the originals and repress were pressed in the same factory over a number of years at Greg Lee Processing 151 W 154th St, Gardena, CA 90248, USA
The other records believed to have been treated in the same way and originally pressed and repressed at this factory include.
Egyptian Lover – Egypt, Egypt
Ultimate Force – Cuts Like These
Chris Glove Taylor – Itchiban Scratch
Kid Frost – Rough Cut
Ice-T-Reckless
The most interesting part of all is that many of us bought records from Beat Street mail order and if you think about it every one of the titles above were available from them in large quantities.
Makes you wonder doesn’t it!
Beat Street seemed to have an endless supply of JDC, Electrobeat, Taxidermi, CCL and probably others that I can't think of right now. I know from my many visits to their place that these were always in stock in abundance.
ReplyDeleteI think maybe Scorpio might come into play here aswell. I seem to remember being able to order these same titles from them aswell and given that they repress loads of titles they could possible have the masters and stampers.
ReplyDeleteHow comes you never took me to Beat Street Records, It was impossible to get in there! You jammy dodger!
ReplyDeleteThis looks the same as my copy I bought from Groove in 84 like the week they got it in.
ReplyDeleteSomething else that's very interesting! All my copies of the following records are pressed on Purple Transparent Vinyl.
