There seems to have been lots of confusion with this over the years. Forgetting the promo copies for the minute, there are two copies of the issue. They look identical however one has an additional synth running through the track. To be totally honest I have listened to these a number of times and actually believe they are different studio sessions. If you listen closely they have a different feel and ambiance, it could even be they were recorded in different studios. I would guess that it was recorded with an additional synth at a later date or without the synth at a later date. I don't think the synth was removed at the mixing desk. But who knows?
